Where is the Red Sea?

The Red Sea is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia. The connection to the ocean is in the south through the Bab el Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden.

Itineraries

Day 1

Depart Johannesburg

Check in at Johannesburg International airport at 18h00 for your flight to Cairo departing at 21h45. Dinner is served onboard.

Day 2-7

Cairo , Hurghada, Liveaboard

On arrival in Cairo at 05h35, stay in transit for your flight to Hurghada. You will be met at Hurghada airport and transferred to Port Ghaleb, approximately a 3 hour road transfer, where you will step into your luxurious cabin and unpack to unwind for the week. Soon after that you will be submerging yourself into the warm, crystal clear waters of the Red Sea with its wonderful sea life. Once the check in procedure is complete i.e. dive gear unpacked, safety briefings complete & all guests on board the Liveaboard will depart. In the event of late arrivals, the Liveaboard may return to port after the check dive to collect remaining guests or alternatively only depart the following day. The luxury Liveaboard offers 5* service, exceptional cuisine, a friendly crew and unlimited diving opportunities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily and tea, coffee, soft drinks, beers and bottled water are freely available on board. Dive St. Johns Reef, Fury Shoals and Elphinstone

Day 8

Hurghada

After 2 dives, return to the port and check out of the liveaboard. Transfer to Hurghada (approx. 3 hour drive) and check into the Bella Vista hotel which is ideally situated close to the restaurants, coffee bars and shops. Spend the evening enjoying the night life and exploring the area.

Day 9

Hurghada

Option 1: Spend the day at leisure in Hurghada, and after a late checkout transfer to the airport for your flight to Cairo, remain in transit for your flight to Johannesburg. Option 2: Check out after breakfast for your flight to Cairo where you will be met on arrival and embark directly for the full Day Tour. Return to the airport in the evening for your flight home.

Day 10

Arrive in Johannesburg

Arrive in Johannesburg at approx. 07h10

After disembarking on the evening of the 07 July you will commence the 3-hour road transfer from Port Ghalib Marina to Hurghada. Once there you can enjoy an all-inclusive experience at the 4-star Bella Vista Hotel. Enjoy access to both the beach as well as the swimming pool for you to relax and unwind. Enjoy dinner on the evening of your arrival as well as breakfast in the morning and a leisurely lunch. Check out at 17h00 before heading back to Cairo for your flight home.

This extension is ideal for the free day at the end of your trip before your flight home. As above after disembarking on the evening of the 07 July you will commence the 3-hour road transfer from Port Ghalib Marina to Hurghada. Enjoy an all-inclusive experience at the 4-star Bella Vista Hotel. Enjoy access to both the beach as well as the swimming pool for you to relax and unwind before dinner. After an early morning transfer to Hurhghada airport, fly to Cairo for your day tour.

As the capital of Egypt, Cairo boasts a number of worthy attractions. Our tour includes the main hotspots on offer to get a complete Cairo experience. Transfer to the airport in the morning for the flight to Cairo. Met on arrival, you will be collected in an airconditioned vehicle and taken for a tour of the Pyramids and Sphinx by an English-speaking Egyptian guide. You will then be taken to the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum which is the largest archaeological museum in the world to explore thousands of artifacts, many of which are now on display for the first time. You will then be collected and taken to a bustling Egyptian bazaar to browse the many goods on offer including antiques, handcrafts, shishas, spices and other special Egyptian souvenirs in this authentic market place setting. After the tour, transfer to the airport at early evening for your flight back to Johannesburg departing at approx. 23h10.

Diving Highlights and Bucket List Dive Sites:

ST John’s (Border of Sudan):

This area offers some of the best diving in the Red Sea and one is spoilt for choice with the chain of reefs and wealth of dive sites in this area. The numerous drop offs, tunnels and hard & soft coral formations make for spectacular diving and a photographer’s paradise. Sharks, dolphins and pelagics are common sightings in this area.

St. Johns Caves (Umm Kharalim)

A spectacular and memorable dive made up of shallow cracks in the reef which opens into caverns and overhangs. Sunlight comes streaming in through the tunnels creating a unique and truly memorable dive.

Habili Ali

Hammerhead sharks, grey reef and silver-tip sharks have been seen here and the reef is characterised by giant gorgonians and black corals.

Gota Soraya

This is known as one of the best wall dives in the Red Sea which an abundance of corals and alive with marine life. Also a popular area to see sharks.

FURY SHOAL:

The Fury shoal has beautiful coral reefs and numerous spectacular dive sites. The reefs are inhabited by variety of pelagic fish, sharks, dolphins and an abundance of hard and soft corals.

Dolphin Reef

A pod of spinner dolphins has been known to live in this area and are often sighted while scuba diving here.

Abu Galawa Soraya

Located towards the northern edge of the Shoal this reef offers spectacular hard corals and a small wreck of a sailing boat which is alive with marine life.

Sha’ab Claude

Famous for its maze of swim throughs and some of the largest caves in the Red Sea. The rays of light come streaming into the large rooms creating beautiful visual effects. There is a resident Napoleon that often greets the divers and white tip reef sharks have been spotted on the outer reefs.

ELPHINSTONE:

A truly legendary Red Sea diving reef where you can expect the unexpected, with its north and south plateaus and its walls covered in soft corals. Southern Oceanic White tips, Hammerheads and grey reef sharks can also be spotted here on a regular basis.
